Is TOEFL accepted for Canada PR?

Not for Express Entry at the time of writing. IRCC accepts IELTS General Training, CELPIP General and PTE Core for English, and TEF Canada or TCF Canada for French. TOEFL is accepted by many Canadian colleges for a study permit application, which is a different process from permanent residence.

Tests IRCC designates for Express Entry

For English: IELTS General Training, CELPIP General, and PTE Core. For French: TEF Canada and TCF Canada. Results must be less than two years old on the day you submit your profile, and the Academic version of IELTS is not accepted.

Where TOEFL fits

TOEFL is an academic test. Canadian universities and colleges accept it for admission, so it is useful if your route is study first and permanent residence later. It does not score you in Express Entry, and an expression of interest that lists only a TOEFL result cannot be submitted.

Which test to sit

For most applicants from Kerala the choice is between IELTS General Training and PTE Core. PTE Core is computer-marked and results arrive within days; IELTS is more widely available across Kerala's test centres. The scoring bands convert to the same Canadian Language Benchmark levels, so choose the format you perform better in and sit it early, because the language score is the largest single lever on your ranking.
