How many points do I need for Canada PR?

There is no single pass mark. You need 67 out of 100 on the Federal Skilled Worker grid to enter the pool, and then a Comprehensive Ranking System score, out of 1,200, above the cut-off of a draw you qualify for. General draws in recent years have invited scores in the 500s; category draws for healthcare, trades and French have gone lower.

Two different scores

People mix these up, and the mix-up costs them a year.

The 67-point grid is the entry test for the Federal Skilled Worker stream. It scores age, education, language, experience, arranged employment and adaptability out of 100. Reach 67 and you may enter the Express Entry pool. It does not get you invited.

The CRS score is what gets you invited. It is out of 1,200: up to 500 for core human capital (age, education, language, Canadian experience), up to 100 for how those factors combine, and up to 600 for a provincial nomination.

What the cut-offs have looked like

IRCC publishes every draw with its cut-off and the number of invitations. General and Canadian Experience Class draws have mostly invited scores in the low-to-mid 500s; category-based draws for healthcare, skilled trades, education, STEM occupations and French speakers have invited lower, sometimes well under 450; provincial nominee draws are always above 700 because the nomination itself is 600 points.

Where the points actually come from

For a single applicant without a spouse:

age: maximum 110, at its highest from 20 to 29, falling to zero at 45
education: up to 150; a master's scores 135, a bachelor's 120
first official language: up to 136, and CLB 9 in every ability is where the big jumps happen
foreign work experience: no direct points, but combined with strong language it adds up to 50 through skill transferability

The most common way to add 30 to 50 points is to retake IELTS and reach 8.0 in listening and 7.0 in the other bands (CLB 9). The CRS calculator shows what each change would do to your number.
